The Masters Tournament
There are four major golf championships per year. The Masters Tournament, sometimes referred to as the U.S. Masters, is the first major golf tournament of the year. It is scheduled for the first full week of April and is the only major that is played at the same course every year—the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. The course first opened in 1933 and has been modified many times by different architects. The tournament was first staged in 1934 as the "Augusta National Invitation Tournament", adopting its current name in 1939.

The PGA Championship
There are four major golf championships each year. The PGA Championship, sometimes referred to as the US PGA Championship or USPGA outside the United States, is one of them. It is an annual tournament conducted by the Professional Golfers' Association of America. The PGA Championship is the only one of the four majors that is exclusively for professional players.
The tournament was established in 1916 and is traditionally played at a parkland club in the United States. The courses chosen tend to be as difficult as those selected for the U.S. Open. The PGA Championship is usually held at a small group of celebrated courses. In 1894, two unofficial national championships for amateur golfers were organised, one held at Newport Country Club in Rhode Island, and the other at Saint Andrew's Golf Club in New York. Saint Andrew's also held an Open championship for professional golfers at the same time. The PGA Championship was first held in October 1916 at Siwanoy Country Club in Bronxville, New York. The winner, Jim Barnes, received $500 and a diamond-studded gold medal.
The tournament was formerly played in mid-August on the third weekend before Labor Day weekend, serving as the fourth and final major of the golf season. However, beginning in 2019, the tournament is played in May on the weekend before Memorial Day, as the season's second major following the Masters in April. The PGA Championship has been played in the eastern half of the United States for most of its history, with some exceptions, including in 2020 when it was held at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco.

The Open Championship
There are four major golf championships each year. These are the Masters Tournament, the PGA Championship, the U.S. Open, and The Open Championship.
The tournament is organised by The R&A. It is called The Open because it is, in theory, ""open" to all, i.e. professional and amateur golfers. In practice, it is a professional tournament in which a small number of the world's leading amateurs also play, by invitation or qualification. The winner is named "The Champion Golfer of the Year", a title that dates back to the first Open in 1860, and receives the Claret Jug as a trophy, first awarded in 1872.
The reigning champion of the 2024 Open is American Xander Schauffele, who won with a score of 275. The 153rd Open Championship will take place from 17 to 20 July 2025 at Royal Portrush.
