If you are using the Golf Course mode on your Golf Buddy watch, it is suggested that you exit this mode and enter the Watch Mode. This is because the settings can only be changed while in Watch Mode. Resetting the Golf Buddy
To reset your Golf Buddy device, you can perform an emergency reboot. This will restore your device to factory settings.
Firstly, open the battery cover and locate the small hole underneath a black plastic sticker on the bottom right of the unit. Remove the sticker and insert a narrow object, such as the tip of a paper clip, into the hole. Press and hold down the reset button inside, then connect the data cable. While holding down the reset button, click the power button. Release the reset button when you see the "Emergency Reboot" screen display. Your Golf Buddy will now restore to its factory settings, which should take around 5 minutes.
If you are experiencing issues with your device, such as freezing, incorrect yardage, or it won't turn on, it is recommended to first perform a firmware update through the GB manager. If this does not fix the issue, then you can attempt the emergency reboot procedure described above.
Alternatively, you can reset your Golf Buddy device by pressing and holding the Power, OK, and Down (or Up) buttons simultaneously for about 12 seconds. You will see progressing LED lights on the bottom (red, orange, and green) followed by the "GolfBuddy" message. This method will revert the firmware version to its previous stable version.

Measuring Shot Distance

Adjusting Distance Settings
To adjust distance-related settings, you'll need to access the Setting Screen. From the Golf Mode Screen or Hazard Screen, locate and tap the button to switch to the Setting Screen. On the Setting Screen, you can adjust various options, including the distance unit. This setting allows you to choose your preferred unit of measurement for distances.
Impacting Factors on Shot Distance
Several factors can impact your shot distance, and understanding these will help you make better adjustments. Wind, slope, altitude, and temperature all play a role in how far your ball travels. For instance, wind speed and direction can significantly affect your shot's distance and accuracy. Similarly, the slope of the ground can influence your shot height and distance. Adjusting for these factors will help you optimise your performance.
Techniques for Increasing Shot Distance
To increase your shot distance, there are several techniques and factors to consider:
- Swing Speed and Power: While increasing your swing speed can lead to greater distance, it's more important to improve your swing technique to utilise speed and power efficiently.
- Angle of Attack: The angle at which your clubhead approaches the ball significantly impacts the distance achieved.
- Loft Selection: Choosing the right loft for your irons can increase distance. Lower-lofted irons, like 3-irons or 4-irons, offer greater distance but are harder to control.
- Clubhead Impact: Ensure that your clubhead impacts the centre of the ball, as off-centre contact can reduce distance.
- Club Customisation: Customising your club's weight, length, material, and design can help enhance your swing speed and, consequently, your shot distance.
- Practice and Consistency: Distance control is developed through consistent practice, focusing on your grip, stance, and posture to refine your swing.
By following these guidelines and making adjustments based on various factors, you'll be able to effectively manage and improve your shot distances using your Golf Buddy device.
