Golf Story: Digging Deep For Success

how to dig golf story

Golf Story is an indie game from Australia, reminiscent of 16-bit RPGs, where players progress by playing golf instead of fighting. The game has a tendency to leave players feeling lost, with one such instance being in Lurker Valley, where players need to find an idol statue to continue their quest to become a famous golfer. To do this, players must first buy the Digging Wedge from the pro shop and equip it by pressing right on the d-pad. They can then dig up a treasure chest with the archaeologist, who will give them a tracker to find other buried treasures. Players must then follow the tracker and dig to uncover a ball marker to give to Yvonne, who will later give it to Lara.

Buy the Digging Wedge from the Pro Shop

To buy the Digging Wedge from the Pro Shop in Golf Story, you'll first need to gain access to the shop. The Pro Shop is located a little northeast of the Lurker Valley area entrance, but it's usually closed when you first arrive.

To open the Pro Shop, you'll need to complete challenges at the entrance to the zone just east of the main area in Lurker Valley. Head eastward from the Pro Shop to reach the driving range area, where you'll find a group of four people, each with a challenge for you. You'll need to complete the third challenge out of four (Deep Rough and Green Only) to get the Pro Shop owner to head back and open the shop.

Once the Pro Shop is open, you can go inside and purchase the Digging Wedge. Make sure to also buy and equip the Digging Wedge, as it will be essential for completing certain quests, such as digging with the archaeologist to find the Idol. The Digging Wedge typically costs $24.

After buying and equipping the Digging Wedge, you can then talk to the archaeologist, who will invite you to dig with him. He will show you a mound of dirt, and you can use your Digging Wedge to dig up a treasure chest. The archaeologist will then give you a tracker device to help you find other buried treasures.

Dig up the treasure chest with the archaeologist

To dig up the treasure chest with the archaeologist in Golf Story, you must first complete a few tasks.

Firstly, you need to gain access to the Pro Shop by proving your golfing prowess to the coach. Once you're inside, buy the Digging Wedge clubs. Then, play 9 holes and head to the clubhouse to speak with the coach again. After this conversation, you can go to Lurker Valley, where you'll find the archaeologist.

Before speaking to the archaeologist, make sure you have bought and equipped the Digging Wedge. Talk to the archaeologist, and he will show you a mound of dirt to dig up with your wedge. Press the A button as the cursor moves into the marked space, which gets smaller each time you dig.

After successfully digging up the treasure chest, the archaeologist will give you a tracker device to find other buried treasures across the Wee Links course. Open the chest to collect your reward, and then it's time to get digging again! The archaeologist will automatically return you to him once you find the Idol.

Get the tracker and find the four treasures

To get the tracker and find the four treasures in Golf Story, follow these steps:

First, you need to gain access to the Pro Shop by proving your golf skills to the coach. Once inside, buy the Digging Wedge clubs. Then, play 9 holes and head to the clubhouse to enter Lucky's office. Speak with the coach, and they will direct you to Lurker Valley, where you will find the archaeologist.

Talk to the archaeologist, but note that he won't let you use his shovel. Instead, select your wedges from your gear menu. The archaeologist will show you a mound of dirt, and you must dig this up using your wedge to uncover a treasure chest.

After digging up the treasure chest, the archaeologist will give you a tracker device to find other buried treasures. The tracker will fill in a circle the closer it is to a buried treasure. Now, you can locate the four treasures in the following areas:

  • Center of the bone formation northeast of a group of people
  • Northwest area in the deep rough behind a sand bunker
  • Center area, middle of a footprint-shaped sand bunker
  • Far north area, deep rough northwest of the hole (this is where you will find the Idol)

The Idol is the final treasure you need to find to complete this quest. Return it to the girl outside the Pro Shop, and you will then be allowed to play on the 9-hole Lurker course.

Return the Idol to the woman outside the Pro Shop

To return the Idol to the woman outside the Pro Shop in Golf Story, follow these steps:

  • Purchase the Digging Wedge clubs from the Pro Shop. This is necessary to initiate the quest and locate the Idol.
  • Play the 9 holes and then head to the clubhouse to speak with Lucky in his office. This interaction will lead you to Lurker Valley, where the Idol is located.
  • In Lurker Valley, complete the peewee golf tournament and any other available quests. Challenge Lara to the peewee course and beat her.
  • Speak with the archaeologist, who will invite you to dig with him. Equip your Digging Wedge club and select it from your wedges.
  • Follow the archaeologist, who will guide you to the treasure using a radar or treasure detector. The Idol should be buried in the same area where you previously completed the grass challenges.
  • Once you have the Idol, return it to the woman standing outside the Pro Shop. She will then allow you to play the 9-hole Lurker Valley Course.
  • After completing the course, return to Wellworn Grove and speak to Lucky again. This will initiate your first real competition at Turtle Lake in Lurker Valley.

Please note that some sources suggest completing additional quests in Lurker Valley, such as finding the turtles and feeding the fish, but these are not directly related to acquiring and returning the Idol.
