Caddies and their perks
In Powerstar Golf, each golfer has their own unique abilities. For instance, a golfer can be a Japanese scientist who can use a magnetized ball to pull her shots closer to the pin. Caddies, on the other hand, are a different type of in-game character that can provide various perks and abilities to the player.
Caddies can be equipped with perks that give boosts to the player's game. These perks can be obtained by purchasing booster packs from the in-game store. As players progress through the game and level up, they will unlock additional perk slots for their caddies, with the final slot unlocking at level 35. These perks can provide benefits such as the ability to skip across water or see where your putt will land.
Players can also borrow caddies from their friends through the Caddie Sharing feature. Borrowed caddies come with the perks equipped by their owners, allowing players to try out different perk combinations. Additionally, players can earn XP by completing rounds with borrowed caddies, rewarding the caddie owners.
The in-game store offers Gear Packs at varying price levels, containing gear such as clubs, balls, boosters, and caddie perks. Players can experiment with different types of gear and caddie perks to find a style that suits their gameplay. Powerstar Golf also provides social features, allowing players to connect with friends and share their progress and achievements.

Spin and its effects
Spin is one of the most important skills to master in Powerstar Golf, as it offers control over ball flight, landing, and roll. Spin can be applied to the left, right, top, or bottom of the ball, and each type of spin has a different effect on the ball's trajectory, distance, and control.
The three main types of spin are backspin, sidespin, and topspin. Backspin is the backward rotation of the ball as it travels through the air, creating lift and causing the ball to climb to higher elevations before descending. It is crucial for approach shots as it helps the ball stop quickly on the green. Sidespin refers to the horizontal rotation of the ball, influencing its curve in flight. Depending on the direction of the sidespin, it can cause a fade (left-to-right curve) or a draw (right-to-left curve) for a right-handed golfer. Excessive sidespin can lead to unwanted slices or hooks, so controlling it is essential for hitting straighter shots. Topspin is less common in golf, especially with full-swing shots, but it is used in putting and low, running shots. With topspin, the ball rotates forward, staying low to the ground and rolling upon impact.
The strength of the spin in Powerstar Golf depends on how long the button is held down for. The direction of the spin can be set using the displayed arrow. Spin can be applied before setting up your shot, except when putting.
Understanding the effects of spin can also help players adapt to different course conditions. For example, on high-wind days, lower shots with minimal spin are preferable to prevent the wind from pushing the ball off course. On wet or soft greens, more backspin can help stop the ball quickly, while on firm greens, controlled spin can add consistency to your shots.

Rival Mode
Through the Rival Mode menu option, you can choose a specific opponent, whether it's a friend or any other Powerstar golfer from around the world, and select a particular round to challenge them on. Alternatively, every time you play a round in stroke play format outside of Career Mode, you will automatically be offered suitable opponents to challenge (unless you have disabled this feature in the Settings). Either way, whenever you complete a round in stroke play format outside of Career Mode, your best score is automatically stored for other players to compete against.
Caddie sharing is also possible in Rival Mode. You can share caddies with friends across Xbox Live, allowing them to use the caddies in their own games and benefit from the perks you've equipped them with. They can also see your favourite costume style. To share a caddie, press while viewing them on the Caddie Setup screen.

Grid and its use when putting
Putting in Powerstar Golf can be challenging, but the grid can help you make the right decisions. When putting, the grid on the green illustrates the severity of the slopes and inclines. The grid's lines feature moving dots that indicate the severity of the slope for different parts of the green. The colour of the grid also indicates this severity: red patches are steep, while green patches are close to flat.
Using the grid, you can judge the best direction and power for your putt. You can change the maximum length of your putt by pressing the corresponding button on your Xbox controller. Aim the target marker with the left stick, or use the right stick for finer aiming control, then press the corresponding button to begin your putt. As the shot bar fills, press the button again to set the power of your putt.
Unlike other shots in Powerstar Golf, you don't need to set the accuracy when putting. However, you can still apply spin to your putt by using the left stick while setting up your shot. Adding spin to the left or right of the ball will make it curve in flight, which is known as fading and drawing. Increasing spin on the bottom or top of the ball can make the ball stop quickly, reverse direction, or roll further upon hitting the ground, known as backspin or topspin.
Each golfer and caddie in Powerstar Golf has a unique ability or skill. These abilities can be used a few times in each round and offer a distinct advantage when putting. To activate a golfer's special ability, hold the corresponding button while setting up the shot, or press it while the ball is in motion. You can only use a golfer's ability when the special ability panel on the far left of the screen is lit.
