Unlike standard Stableford, the modified version can result in points lost on a given hole—up to two points if a double bogey or worse is shot. For instance, while a bogey results in zero points, a double bogey results in a loss of two points. On the other hand, a birdie is worth three times as much as in stroke play, and an eagle is worth six points. Stableford scoring aims to dissuade golfers from giving up on a round if they card bad holes.
