The McCall Golf Club in Idaho is a 27-hole golf course located off Davis Avenue on Reedy Lane in the north-easterly part of McCall. The course was originally dedicated in 1912 as "Kelly's Field" and was primarily used for baseball competition between company teams. In 1919, the field was renamed "Howard McCall Field" in honour of Captain Howard McCall, son of PECO president Joseph McCall, and the 15 PECO employees who died in France during World War I.
The idea for a golf course on the site came about in 1919 when Joseph McCall wondered why more employees did not use the facilities. He stated that no additional property would be purchased until the current tract was being utilised to its fullest extent by employees. The solution seemed to be a "miniature" nine-hole course. Conveniently, golf course designer Donald Ross was in the Philadelphia area at the time, and an employee of the company who was a long-time friend of Ross asked him to design a miniature course. Ross drew up a simple plan for nine short par 3s with no bunkers that would sit on cut meadow grass, and the course opened for play in June 1919.
Golf quickly became very popular at McCall, and in 1920 two adjacent tracts of land were purchased to add a new nine-hole course designed by another renowned golf course designer, William Flynn. The Flynn nine featured a mixture of par 3s and short par 4s, none stretching beyond 370 yards, and was opened for play in 1923. With two nine-hole layouts in place, the course was extended to 15 holes in 1928 and ultimately to a full 18-hole course in 1935.
